Level 1 Foundational Cooking Course

The Ayurvedic Kitchen Course is a 4-week nourishing cooking immersion that dives into the foundational principles of Ayurvedic food and nutrition. Join Julie Bernier of True Ayurveda and Claire Ragozzino of Vidya Living for an exploration of Ayurvedic cooking and eating. 

Part lecture and discussion, part interactive cooking classeach week progressively builds on the previous learning theme, so you take away knowledge of not only how to prepare a recipe, but a deeper understanding of how to nourish your body.

You’ll learn Ayurvedic concepts alongside staple recipes, while also expanding your repertoire with versatile real-food formulas for building balanced meals and adapting dishes to meet your bodies’ needs. We want to teach you how we cook and feed ourselves practically each day, using Ayurvedic wisdom while meeting a modern-day lifestyle. 

We offer two courses, a Level 1 and Level 2. This course is the first of our two levels and provides an introductory foundation to Ayurvedic kitchen skills and practice.

We want to teach you how we cook and feed ourselves practically each day, using Ayurvedic wisdom while meeting a modern-day lifestyle.

Our cooking classes are all hosted live via Zoom and recorded to watch at your own pace. We gather as a group—in our own kitchens—and cook “side-by-side”. As we demo how to make each dish, you’ll be cooking alongside us while walking you through the process each step of the way. This is truly a hands-on immersion where you get a chance to practice and ask your questions as we move along through the recipes and learning topics. At the end of each class, you’ll sit down finished dishes to enjoy. You’ll not only learn the techniques, but you’ll get to taste and experience this nourishing food and build your confidence in the kitchen along the way. Classes are 3.5 hours long.

As part of the class, you’ll receive access to our exclusive course platform where you’ll find the class recipes, shopping list, prep tips, and information to prepare you for the class.

You’ll walk away from this Level 1 Foundations course with a solid understanding of the five elements, the six tastes, the maha gunas and how to build a balanced meal that nourishes your body’s unique needs.

Do I need previous experience with ayurveda or cooking?

All experience levels are welcome—including those brand new to Ayurveda and cooking. This course is designed to be accessible for all, no matter your skill or experience level.

DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT?

We’ll give you specific week-by-week equipment lists, and you likely already have it all in your kitchen. Here’s what we’ll be using:

  • Stovetop – no oven needed
  • 2 small pots with lids
  • 10” or bigger sauté, cast iron or frying pan
  • Cutting board
  • A sharp knife
  • Rolling pin
  • Mortar and pestle or coffee grinder for spice grinding
  • Cooking spoons
  • Mixing bowls
  • Small/large sieves
  • High-Speed Blender

What if I can't attend live?

No problem! All content as been previously recorded and made available online to watch and learn at your own pace. When you sign up for the Level 1 course, you get immediate life-time access to download the content. As for your questions, ask away in the course forum, Claire and Julie respond within 24 hours.

Level 2 Kitchen Intuition Cooking Course

Our Kitchen Intuition Course builds upon the foundational principles of Ayurvedic cooking and nutrition that we teach in our Level 1 course. This 4-week live cooking immersion will go deeper into cultivating your intuition in the kitchen so that you know what to cook according to your doshic imbalances. Together, we will discuss stages of life, climates, seasons, special needs and the passages of time that influence your body and mind. You’ll learn how to identify signs and symptoms of imbalance, and how to plan and cook meals to keep you in good health.

Part lecture and discussion, part interactive cooking class—each week we will explore how to use specific foods and cooking methods to balance Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Rather than eating for your body type, you’ll learn how to properly apply these different diets according to what your body needs. Whether you’re new to cooking or a seasoned chef, this course teaches you how to think about food in a whole new way. 

We offer two courses, a Level 1 and Level 2. This Level 2 course will be held live in Fall 2022. Join us live in the kitchen or watch the recordings at your own pace.

After each live session, the video recording will be posted in the course platform to review. You’ll have an additional three months after the end of the course to access all course recordings and download course materials if you can’t join the group live.

CAN I TAKE LEVEL 2 IF I HAVEN'T DONE LEVEL 1 YET?

All Level 1 alumni and new students are welcome to join this new course. We strongly recommend taking our Level 1 program first. We’ll be building on the complex Ayurvedic concepts that we’ve covered in Level 1 and want to ensure you are comfortable with the terminology and practices before joining us for Level 2. To make this accessible, you can now purchase Level 1 & 2 together as a bundle and save $250!

No problem; this is the case for many of our students who join from other parts of the world. The recordings will be uploaded to the course platform within 24 hours so you can watch them when you have time. You’ll have access to all class recordings for the duration of the course and 3 months thereafter. As for your questions, you can email them to us and we’ll address them in the live classes.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE ACCESS TO THE COURSE?

We encourage you to join us live for our Level 2 classes. You’ll have three additional months to watch the recordings after the program ends. If you purchased the Level 1 & 2 bundle, you will be able to download the Level 1 recordings to watch anytime at your convenience.

Julie Bernier

Julie Bernier helps women to bring their bodies back into balance, whether they’re struggling with hormonal imbalances, period problems, digestive troubles, skin conditions, anxiety, depression, preparing for or recovering from giving birth, or any other dis-ease. This holistic approach to individualized wellness is rooted in ayurveda: a holistic system of healing from ancient India. Julie is a registered Ayurvedic Practitioner and Ayurvedic Yoga Therapist with the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA) as well as a Certified Massage Therapist. She studied each of these modalities in the US and straight from the source in India.

Claire Ragozzino

Claire Ragozzino is a certified yoga instructor and Ayurvedic counselor with a background in holistic nutrition and natural cooking. Her work is dedicated to bringing yoga, Ayurveda, and nutrition to a modern lifestyle.
