Ritual Soaks
According to the yogis, moon phase bathing is a powerful way to cleanse, clarify and recharge your energy.  During the full moon specifically, the minerals in Himalayan salt can optimally be absorbed by the body. This is when the body’s healing potential is at its peak, bioenergetic weak points can be harmonized, and we can tap into our body’s deeper flow of energy.

Other beneficial times for ritual baths are during the new moon days and the on the 11th day after the full and new moon – otherwise known as Ekadasi in Hindu lunar calendar. The Ekadasi day is recognized as the best of all days to rest and fast, as this is when the rays of the moon actually nourish the subtle nerves and feelings of the heart. Yogi Bhajan taught that this is the day when you are most in balance. The glandular system readjusts itself and your metabolism is in the process of change, so if you eat very lightly (enjoying fresh green juices, raw foods and hydrating with lemon water) your health will be optimized.

The mineral-rich salts, almond milk and essential oils of this bath contains many nourishing benefits. Traditionally, therapeutic Himalayan salt baths have been used to cleanse the body and relax sore muscles.  Himalayan pink salt’s rich mineral content includes over 84 minerals and trace elements such as: calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper and iron.  The salt  helps balances electrolytes, supports proper nutrient absorption, eliminates toxins, balances the body’s pH, normalizes blood pressure, and increases circulation and conductivity.  It can also assist with relief from arthritis, skin rashes, psoriasis, and flu and fever symptoms.

Vitamin E, found in the almond milk, is our body’s natural defense against external factors that are harmful to the skin such as UV rays and environmental pollutants. Studies show that vitamin E together with vitamin A, when applied topically, can protect the skin from damages caused by sun exposure. Vitamin E’s powerful antioxidant properties help protect the body from the formation of free radicals by neutralizing them. Free radicals are major factors that contribute to skin aging. The Vitamin E also works to prevent the depletion of collagen and elastin in the skin. The high concentration Vitamin E and essential fatty acids in almond milk also helps to nourish the skin to prevent dryness, leaving the skin feeling soft and supple. Almond milk is also an effective treatment for sunburn, so if you’ve spent a long afternoon in the sun this is a perfect cooling bath to replenish and moisturize the skin.

This bath remedy pairs the nourishing almond milk and cleansing pink salts with with grounding essential oils of rose and lavender. These oils both work to support the Muladhara Chakra, your root chakra, which governs your sense of security and ability to trust in your deepest intuitive self.  As this full moon in Capricorn tests our sense of self and pushes us to redefine our truths, use this ritual bath as a time to reconnect with your purest Self.
